Wasps build nests under eaves, decks, play sets, porch ceilings, shutters and grills across Middle Tennessee every spring and summer. A sheltered spot near food and water is all they need.
Nests start small in spring, often with just one queen. By late summer, a single nest can hold dozens or even hundreds of wasps, and they get more defensive as the colony grows. That’s why catching nests early, on every visit, matters.
How we remove nests
- Nests within reach are included on every visit of our regular plans.
- Our extension pole reaches 30 feet, so high eaves and second-story soffits usually aren’t a problem.
- Most nests can be reached unless they’re somewhere a ladder can’t go.
- If a nest needs outside equipment, like a lift, we’ll tell you the cost before any work begins.
- We treat the area, not just the nest, to discourage wasps from rebuilding in the same spot.
Which wasp do you have?
| Wasp | Where you’ll find it | What to know |
| Paper wasps | Umbrella-shaped open nests under eaves, railings and porch ceilings | The most common nest on Middle Tennessee homes |
| Yellow jackets | Hidden nests in the ground, wall voids or shrubs | Aggressive near the nest, and more active in late summer and fall |
| Bald-faced hornets | Large, gray, football-shaped paper nests in trees and under eaves | Defend their nest fiercely, so don’t try to knock it down |
| Mud daubers | Tube-shaped mud nests on walls and ceilings | Rarely sting, but the nests are unsightly |
Fuzzy and round? That’s probably a bee, not a wasp. See our bee removal page. We relocate honey bees with local beekeepers whenever we can.
How much does wasp control cost?
Wasp nest removal within reach is included in our Monthly, Every Other Month and Quarterly plans, with recurring service starting at $60. There’s no extra charge for nests we can reach with our 30-foot pole or a ladder. Nests that need outside equipment are an additional charge, and we’ll quote it first. The inspection is free.
A year of wasps in Middle Tennessee
| Season | What homeowners see | What we focus on |
| Spring (Mar–May) | Queens starting small new nests | Knocking down nests early, before they grow |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Nests growing under eaves, decks and play sets | Nest removal on every visit, treating nesting areas |
| Fall (Sep–Nov) | Yellow jackets most aggressive, wasps near doors and trash | Removing nests, yellow jacket treatment |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Old nests left empty, a few wasps inside on warm days | Clearing old nests, sealing entry points |
Tips to keep wasps away
- Keep trash cans and recycling bins closed, especially in late summer.
- Clean up spilled sweet drinks and fallen fruit.
- Check play sets, grills and patio furniture for small nests in spring.
- Seal gaps in siding, soffits and around vents, where yellow jackets get into walls.
- Don’t swat at wasps or try to knock down a large nest yourself.

Wasp Control FAQs
Is wasp nest removal included in my plan?
Yes. Removing nests within reach is included on every visit of our Monthly, Every Other Month and Quarterly plans.
Can you reach a nest on my second story?
Usually. Our extension pole reaches 30 feet. If a nest is somewhere a ladder can’t go and needs outside equipment, we’ll tell you the cost first.
Should I knock down a wasp nest myself?
We don’t recommend it, especially with yellow jackets and hornets, which defend their nests aggressively. Call us instead.
Why do wasps keep building in the same spot?
Sheltered spots like eaves and porch ceilings are ideal for nesting. We remove the nest and treat the area to discourage rebuilding, and regular visits catch new nests while they’re small.
What’s the difference between a wasp and a bee?
Wasps are smooth and shiny with a narrow waist. Bees are rounder and fuzzy. We relocate honey bees with local beekeepers whenever we can.
