Our story

U.S. Pest Protection was founded in May 1985, but our roots go back further. The company began five years earlier as Peden’s Pest Patrol, and by the time it became U.S. Pest Protection, its founder already had 20 years of experience in the pest control industry.

Our founders were Tennesseans through and through, one from Pulaski in Giles County and the other from Carthage in Smith County. They built the company the only way they knew how: one customer at a time. Every customer mattered, and taking care of customers came first. That principle still guides everything we do.

In 2007, Erica Brister took over leadership of the company. Since then, U.S. Pest has grown from 5,000 customers to more than 50,000. We built a dedicated commercial division that has tripled in size since it launched, added dedicated mosquito, flea, and tick services, and grown to 85 team members.

Today, we protect homes and businesses across Middle Tennessee. We’re still family-owned, still local, and when you call us, a real person who lives right here in our community answers the phone.

Some of our customers have been with us since the 1980s. A few have trusted us for 45 years.

Our own family’s story

We don’t just talk about pests. We’ve lived with the consequences. When J.K. got seriously ill from a tick-borne disease, our family experienced firsthand what Tennessee families face every summer. We shared the whole story, from the ER visits to the diagnosis to the changes we made in our own yard, so other families can recognize the warning signs sooner. Read J.K.’s story.
