Why beetles show up in your home

Most beetles in Tennessee homes aren’t looking for food. They’re looking for a place to spend the winter.

Every fall, Asian lady beetles and stink bugs gather on sunny walls, then squeeze through gaps around windows, siding and utility lines. They hide in walls and attics, then wander into living spaces on warm winter days and again in spring.

Carpet beetles are different. Their larvae feed on wool, feathers, pet hair and lint, so they can stay inside year-round and damage rugs, clothing and upholstery.

What our Pest Pros see every fall

Our Pest Pros notice a pattern. The homes with lady beetle problems every year are usually the lightest-colored house in the neighborhood, and often the one sitting highest. When both are true, that house is almost always the one lady beetles pick.

Stink bugs and lady beetles gather on the sunny side of a home every fall.

Lady beetles also come back to the same places year after year, following scent markers left behind by the beetles before them. That’s why one-time spraying rarely solves the problem for good. Recurring Monthly or Every Other Month service interrupts that cycle, so fewer beetles are drawn back to your home each fall.

Stink bugs aren’t true beetles, but they arrive the same way and at the same time of year, so we treat them together. Learn more in our lady beetle guide and stink bug guide. If we find pantry beetles or wood-boring beetles, we’ll explain what’s needed before any work begins.

What’s included

  • Exterior treatment around windows, doors, eaves and siding, where beetles gather and get in
  • Interior treatment whenever you need it
  • Advice on sealing entry points, so fewer beetles get inside next fall
  • Free service calls if beetles come back between visits
  • Our Whatever It Takes Guarantee: a refund of your last service, a free re-treat, and if you’re still not happy, we pay a competitor

How much does beetle control cost?

Beetles are included in our ongoing Monthly, Every Other Month and Quarterly plans, with recurring service starting at $60. There’s no extra charge for lady beetles, carpet beetles or stink bugs on a plan.

If you’d rather have a one-time beetle treatment, it starts at $300, depending on the size of your home and the problem. For homes that get lady beetles every year, we recommend Monthly or Every Other Month service. The inspection is free.

Tips to keep beetles out

  • Seal gaps around windows, doors, siding and where pipes and wires enter the house.
  • Vacuum lady beetles and stink bugs instead of swatting them. Crushing them leaves stains and odors.
  • Vacuum rugs, closets and under furniture often to remove carpet beetle larvae.
  • Store wool, feathers and other natural fabrics clean and sealed.

How it works

  1. Free inspection. A Pest Pro checks inside and out and shows you which beetles you have.
  2. Choose your service. An ongoing Monthly, Every Other Month or Quarterly plan, or a one-time treatment.
  3. Treatment. We treat the outside every visit and the inside whenever you need it.
  4. Free service calls. If beetles come back between visits, so do we.

Beetle Control FAQs

Are lady beetles and stink bugs covered under my regular plan?

Yes. Asian lady beetles, stink bugs and carpet beetles are included in our Monthly, Every Other Month and Quarterly plans.

Why does my house get lady beetles every year?

Lady beetles favor light-colored homes, especially ones that sit higher than their neighbors, and they return to the same places each year by following scent markers. Recurring Monthly or Every Other Month service helps break that cycle.

Are Asian lady beetles harmful?

They don’t damage your home, but they can leave a yellow stain and odor when disturbed, and some people are bothered by them indoors.

How do I know if I have carpet beetles?

Look for tiny round beetles on windowsills and small fuzzy larvae in closets, rugs or along baseboards, plus holes in wool clothing or rugs.

What should I do if I find beetles inside?

Vacuum them up instead of crushing them, then call us. We’ll find where they’re getting in and treat inside and out.

How much does beetle control cost?
