How a Monthly Visit Works
March Through November: Mosquito, Tick, and Flea Treatment
- Inspect: We check for standing water, breeding sites, and the shady spots where mosquitoes rest.
- Treat resting areas: A long-lasting barrier goes on shrubs, ornamental plants, tree lines, fence rows, ground cover, under decks, and shaded areas along the foundation.
- Treat breeding sites: Standing water that can’t be removed, along with gutters and drainage areas, is treated so larvae never become biting adults.
- Knock down active mosquitoes: A fast-acting treatment clears the adults already on your property.
- Recommend fixes: We’ll point out standing water, leaf litter, and overgrowth you can address to keep numbers down.
December Through February: Tick and Flea Protection
When mosquitoes go quiet, the visits keep going. In December and January, we treat leaf litter, fence lines, and wooded edges where ticks spend the winter. In February, a growth regulator breaks the flea and tick life cycle before spring. Learn more about our tick control.
When Mosquitoes Are Active in Middle Tennessee
Mosquito activity builds in spring, peaks in mid to late summer, and tapers off in fall. Our technicians typically see mosquitoes through November, and into December in mild years. West Nile virus risk is highest late in the season.| Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec | |

LowActivePeak
Typical activity for Middle Tennessee, based on public health data and what our technicians see in the field. Timing shifts with weather from year to year.
That’s why mosquito treatment runs from March through November. Starting early knocks populations down before they build, and treating through November covers the late-season mosquitoes our technicians still find, along with the weeks when West Nile virus risk is highest.
Middle Tennessee Mosquitoes
- Asian tiger mosquito: Black with white stripes; bites aggressively during the day and breeds in small containers like buckets, toys, and clogged gutters. It’s the mosquito most people notice in their yards.
- House mosquitoes (Culex): Plain brown; bite from dusk through the night and breed in stagnant water. They’re the main carriers of West Nile virus.
- Floodwater mosquitoes: Hatch in large numbers from damp ground after heavy rain, which is why mosquitoes often surge a week or so after storms.
Mosquito-Borne Health Risks in Tennessee
- West Nile virus: In 2025, Nashville’s Metro Public Health Department confirmed a locally acquired human case and found West Nile virus in mosquitoes at 27 trapping sites. In 2024, infected mosquitoes turned up at every sampling site in Davidson County by mid-October.
- La Crosse virus: A mosquito-borne virus that mainly affects children, reported most often in East Tennessee.
- Heartworm: Mosquitoes spread heartworm to dogs and cats, which is why veterinarians recommend year-round prevention.
Most people infected with West Nile virus have no symptoms, but some develop serious illness. See a doctor for fever, severe headache, stiff neck, or confusion after mosquito bites.
How It Fits With Your Pest Control Plan
Our Monthly, Every Other Month, and Quarterly plans cover household pests in and around your home. Mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas need a different, yard-focused treatment, so mosquito and tick control is its own monthly service. Add it to any plan for complete protection, inside and out.
Our Products, Safety, and Rain Policy
- Top-of-the-line products: We use only name-brand products, never generics, chosen for long-lasting protection. Product labels are available on request.
- Safe for your family: Treated areas are safe for kids and pets once dry, usually within about 30 minutes.
- Rain: Most of our products hold up well to rain. If a heavy washout lets activity return, we’ll come back at no additional charge.
How to Help Keep Mosquitoes Down
- Empty or turn over anything that holds water at least once a week
- Keep gutters clean and downspouts flowing
- Change birdbath and pet bowl water every few days
- Trim overgrown shrubs and tall grass where mosquitoes rest
- Repair window and door screens
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does mosquito control cost?
Monthly mosquito, tick, and flea treatment starts at $75 a month for properties up to a quarter acre. Each additional quarter acre adds $60 a month. One-time event treatments start at $300.
How often do you treat for mosquitoes?
Every 30 days. From March through November, each visit treats for mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. In the winter months, visits focus on ticks and fleas.
Why is the program year-round?
Mosquitoes slow down in winter, but ticks don’t. Some Tennessee ticks bite any day above freezing, and winter visits break the tick and flea life cycle before spring.
Does mosquito control also treat ticks and fleas?
Yes. Every visit treats for mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas together, so you don’t need separate services.
Will I still see mosquitoes after treatment?
You should see far fewer. Mosquitoes can fly in from neighboring properties, so no treatment eliminates every one, but monthly treatment keeps the population on your property knocked down.
What happens if it rains?
Most of our products hold up well to rain. If a heavy washout lets activity return, we’ll come back at no additional charge.
Is mosquito treatment safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Treated areas are safe for kids and pets once dry, usually within about 30 minutes. Product labels are available on request.
Do you offer one-time mosquito treatments for events?
Yes. One-time treatments for backyard parties, weddings, graduations, and other events start at $300.
Is mosquito control included in my Monthly, Every Other Month, or Quarterly plan?
No. Those plans cover general household pests. Mosquito, tick, and flea treatment is its own monthly service, and you can add it to any plan.
