Free service calls and our Whatever It Takes Guarantee. Why spraying alone doesn’t stop flies
Flies are a breeding problem, not just a flying problem. Every fly you see came from somewhere: a drain, a trash can, overripe fruit, pet waste, or a pasture or barn down the road.
Spray the flies you see, and new ones keep coming. Our Pest Pros find where they’re breeding and getting in, treat those spots, and show you how to keep it from starting again. Our methods work in every setting, from downtown Nashville homes to farms in the country.
Why some clean homes still get flies
Many homeowners who call us about flies keep a spotless house. The flies aren’t coming from inside. They’re coming from what’s around the home.
- Nearby farms and pastures. House flies breed in manure and can easily travel a mile or two. Homes near pastures, horse barns or cattle often see more flies, no matter how clean they are.
- Open fields and lawns. Cluster flies develop in earthworms in pastures and lawns, then look for a building to spend the winter. Homes surrounded by open land get more of them.
- The sunny side of the house. In the fall, flies gather on warm, south- and west-facing walls, especially on homes in open, exposed spots. They slip inside through small gaps and show up on those same sunny windows on warm days.
That’s why your neighbor may have no flies while you have dozens. It’s about location, not housekeeping.
How we treat flies, and what to expect
Fly control is included in all of our regular plans. We treat where flies rest and get in, and we share sanitation steps that cut down on breeding nearby.
For homes with heavy fly problems, we also use a baiting program, included in your plan. Our bait placements are hidden and enclosed, so they aren’t exposed to your family or pets.
In the days after a treatment, most customers find dead flies on floors and windowsills. That’s a sign the treatment is working. Because flies keep arriving from the surrounding area, ongoing service keeps them under control season after season.
The flies we see most in Middle Tennessee homes
| Fly | Where it breeds | What we do |
| House flies | Trash cans, pet waste, compost, nearby manure | Treat resting areas and entry points, baiting for heavy problems, sanitation advice |
| Drain flies | Slow drains and the buildup inside them | Drain treatment and cleaning recommendations |
| Fruit flies | Overripe produce, recycling bins, sink drains | Find and remove the source, then treat |
| Cluster flies | Earthworms in lawns and pastures in summer, then attics and wall voids in fall | Exterior treatment in late summer and fall, interior treatment as needed |
Cluster flies act a lot like lady beetles. They gather on sunny walls in the fall, slip inside to spend the winter, and show up at windows on warm days.

Fly Control FAQs
Is fly control included in my regular plan?
Yes. House flies, drain flies, fruit flies and cluster flies are included in our Monthly, Every Other Month and Quarterly plans, including baiting for heavy fly problems.
Why do I have so many flies when my house is clean?
Flies often come from the surrounding area, not your home. House flies can travel a mile or two from pastures, barns and livestock, and cluster flies develop in lawns and fields. Homes near farmland or in open, sunny spots tend to get more.
Is it normal to find dead flies after treatment?
Yes. Most customers find dead flies on floors and windowsills in the days after a treatment. That means it’s working.
Is the fly bait safe around my kids and pets?
Our bait placements are hidden and enclosed, so the bait isn’t exposed to people or pets.
What are the tiny flies in my bathroom or kitchen sink?
They’re usually drain flies, which breed in the buildup inside slow drains. Cleaning the drain and treating it is what stops them.
Why are there flies at my windows in winter?
Those are usually cluster flies. They move into attics and walls in the fall and come out on warm winter days, often at sunny windows. Treating the outside of your home in late summer and fall helps keep them out.
