Leiper’s Fork Pest Control — Protecting a Historic Village Near the Natchez Trace for 40+ Years
Family-owned pest protection for the historic village and horse country near the Natchez Trace — for over 40 years.
Leiper’s Fork is a village of around 650 people tucked into the rural horse country west of Franklin, just off the Natchez Trace Parkway. The area’s history goes back to 1789, when John McGee sold the land to Jesse Benton, who established one of the area’s first homesteads, and Leiper’s Fork grew into the trading and social center for western Williamson County, with its own post office operating until 1918. Today its 18-acre historic district, anchored by buildings like the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the village’s inns, restaurants, art galleries, and antique shops still draw visitors to its handful of walkable blocks. Surrounding horse farms and wooded acreage fill out the rest of the community. That mix, a historic 19th-century village core, art and antique businesses, and horse-country acreage, is what shapes local pest pressure differently from a standard Franklin suburb. For more than 40 years, our family-owned team has protected Leiper’s Fork homes, farms, and businesses, in the countryside out toward Franklin, Fairview, and Thompson’s Station.
Being a historic village surrounded by horse farms and wooded acreage shapes which pests show up and where. Here’s what we see most in Leiper’s Fork homes, farms, and businesses:
TERMITES
Termites in Historic Village Construction
Buildings in Leiper’s Fork’s 18-acre historic district, some dating back to the 1800s, are exactly the kind of aging wood-frame construction subterranean termites target. They swarm in spring (typically March through May) and feed year-round below grade. An annual inspection and a monitored barrier matter especially here, protecting structures on the National Register where original material can’t simply be replaced.
BARN RODENTS
Barn & Horse Farm Rodents
The horse farms that surround Leiper’s Fork mean barns and feed storage are part of daily life on many properties, and that kind of storage gives mice and rats food, cover, and warmth. It doesn’t take much for that population to move from a barn into a nearby home. We treat outbuildings and the house as one property with our rodent control program, not two separate jobs.
COMMERCIAL PESTS
Antique Shops & Restaurant Pest Control
Leiper’s Fork’s inns, restaurants, art galleries, and antique shops draw the same pest pressure as any small commercial village, rodents and insects drawn to food service and storage areas in older buildings. We offer commercial pest programs for retail and restaurant spaces, scheduled around business hours.
TICKS & MOSQUITOES
Ticks & Mosquitoes from Wooded Acreage
The wooded, hilly terrain around Leiper’s Fork and along the Natchez Trace Parkway corridor gives ticks and mosquitoes plenty of habitat. Ticks ride in on pets and pant cuffs after time outdoors, while low, shaded spots breed mosquitoes after rain. Our program treats the yard, tree line, and outbuildings, not just the porch.
SEASONAL RODENTS
The Fall Rodent Push
As temperatures drop from September into November, mice and rats move off fields, fence lines, and wooded edges and into garages, crawlspaces, barns, and attics looking for a warm winter home. Sealing entry points before the first cold snap is far easier than evicting an established rodent population in January, and ahead of the area’s fall festival crowds.
Your Leiper’s Fork Pest Calendar
What to expect through the year around Leiper’s Fork’s historic village and horse country — and when to act:
Spring
(Mar–May)
Termite swarms begin around historic village buildings, horse farms turn animals out to pasture, and the season’s first mosquitoes hatch in wooded low spots. Best window for a termite inspection.
Summer
(Jun–Aug)
Ticks and mosquitoes peak in wooded acreage and along the Natchez Trace corridor; wasp nests grow large in barns and around village storefronts; rodent and insect pressure builds around restaurants and shops.
Fall
(Sep–Nov)
Rodents move off fields, fence lines, and wooded edges and into barns, homes, and village businesses ahead of winter and fall festival season. Prime time to seal up.
Winter
(Dec–Feb)
Rodents settle into barns, attics, and crawlspaces; overwintering pests hide in wall voids. The quiet season to plan exclusion and lock in termite protection.
