Thompson’s Station Pest Control — Protecting One of Tennessee’s Fastest-Growing Towns for 40+ Years
Family-owned pest protection for a Civil War-era battlefield town growing faster than almost anywhere else in Tennessee — for over 40 years.
Thompson’s Station traces back to 1780, and its current name comes from Dr. Elijah Thompson, who donated land for a town and train station once the railroad arrived in 1855; before that, the community had been called White House and then Littlebury. The town is best known historically for the Battle of Thompson’s Station, fought March 5, 1863, when Nathan Bedford Forrest’s cavalry helped secure a decisive Confederate victory, a battle remembered locally for 17-year-old Alice Thompson’s dash to raise a fallen regimental flag under fire. Several homes from that era, including the Jacob Critz House and Thomas L. Critz House, are still standing and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. More than a century and a half later, Thompson’s Station has become one of Tennessee’s fastest-growing towns, with population more than tripling from 2,194 in 2010 to 7,485 in 2020 and continuing to climb. That mix, a Civil War battlefield town, historic 19th-century homes, and explosive new residential growth, is what shapes local pest pressure differently from an established suburb. For more than 40 years, our family-owned team has protected Thompson’s Station homes and businesses, from the historic core out toward Spring Hill, Franklin, and Columbia.
Being a Civil War-era battlefield town experiencing some of Tennessee’s fastest residential growth shapes which pests show up and where. Here’s what we see most in Thompson’s Station homes:
Historic Termites
Termites in historic 19th-century home construction
Homes like the Jacob Critz House, built around 1835, and other National Register properties around Thompson’s Station represent some of the oldest wood-frame construction in the area, exactly what subterranean termites target. They swarm in spring (typically March through May) and feed year-round below grade. An annual inspection and a monitored barrier matter especially for structures this historically significant.
New-Construction Termites
Termites in newly graded new-construction soil
With population more than tripling since 2010, Thompson’s Station has new subdivisions going in constantly, and freshly graded lots give termite colonies an easy foothold once construction disturbs the soil. Even a home just a few years old benefits from an early termite inspection, not just the area’s historic properties.
Barn & Rural Rodents
Barn & rural property rodents
Thompson’s Station still has working farms and rural properties among its newer subdivisions, and the barns and outbuildings on those properties give mice and rats food, cover, and warmth. It doesn’t take much for that population to move from a barn into a nearby home. We treat outbuildings and the house as one property, not two separate jobs.
Ticks & Mosquitoes
Ticks & mosquitoes in open green space
Thompson’s Station’s mature trees and open green spaces, part of what gives the town its scenic countryside feel, also give ticks and mosquitoes plenty of habitat. Ticks ride in on pets and pant cuffs after time outdoors, while low, shaded spots breed mosquitoes after rain. Our program treats the yard, tree line, and outbuildings, not just the porch.
Seasonal Rodents
The fall rodent push
As temperatures drop from September into November, mice and rats move off fields, fence lines, and construction sites and into garages, crawlspaces, barns, and attics looking for a warm winter home. Sealing entry points before the first cold snap is far easier than evicting an established population in January.
Your Thompson’s Station Pest Calendar
What to expect through the year across Thompson’s Station’s historic homes and growing subdivisions — and when to act:
Spring
(Mar–May)
Termite swarms begin in both freshly graded new-construction soil and around historic 19th-century homes, and the season’s first ticks and mosquitoes become active in open green space. Best window for a termite inspection.
Summer
(Jun–Aug)
Ticks and mosquitoes peak in yards and wooded edges; wasp and yellowjacket nests grow large on decks, barns, and eaves; ant pressure builds around new subdivisions.
Fall
(Sep–Nov)
Rodents move off fields, fence lines, and construction sites and into barns and homes ahead of winter. Prime time to seal up.
Winter
(Dec–Feb)
Rodents settle into barns, attics, and crawlspaces; overwintering pests hide in wall voids. The quiet season to plan exclusion and lock in termite protection.
