Mosquitos Dirty Dancing in Your Yard?

DIRTY DANCING?

Did you know that mosquitoes are huge fans of Dirty Dancing? Okay, maybe not fans of the film itself, but definitely of the actual act of dirty dancing. Before mating, mosquitoes are known to engage in a dance that involves beating their wings in a call-and-response manner. Who knew?! But, why do they do this?

Mosquitoes are cold-blooded insects, meaning that as the temperature rises so does their metabolism and activity. Warmer temperatures also mean breeding season for these guys. In an attempt to attract a female, the males will swarm together and ‘dance.’ By doing this, they are secreting pheromones and creating a cloud of fragrance that the female mosquito just can’t resist. It really is a numbers game and the more potential partners to choose from means greater chance of actually mating.

Don’t let your backyard be a dance floor for mosquitos this summer. Call U.S. Pest Protection today to crash the party before it even begins! Call: 615-590-1260. Visit: U.S. Pest | Follow us on Instagram @u.s.pest to stay up-to-date.
