Baxter Pest Control — Protecting Homes on Mine Lick Creek & Center Hill Lake for 40+ Years
Family-owned pest protection tuned to Mine Lick Creek and the Center Hill Lake embayment — for over 40 years.
Baxter grew up as a Tennessee Central Railroad town in the 1890s, and it still sits where the hills of the Cumberland Plateau’s western edge roll down into the Mine Lick Creek valley, a creek big enough that its lower stretch forms a real embayment of Center Hill Lake. Cabins, docks, and RV resorts line that water just outside town, historic buildings like Baxter Seminary anchor the old railroad-era core, and homes range from in-town lots to wooded, sloped acreage above the creek. That mix, lake and creek frontage, hillside terrain, and a historic downtown, is what makes Baxter distinct, and it’s also what shapes local pest pressure. For more than 40 years, our family-owned team has protected Baxter homes, from Mine Lick Creek and the lake embayment out toward Silver Point, Buffalo Valley, and Algood. We build every treatment plan around how, and where, you actually live.
Being a hillside town on a creek that feeds into Center Hill Lake shapes which pests show up and when. Here’s what we see most in local homes:
Mosquitoes
Creek & lake-embayment mosquitoes
Mine Lick Creek’s slow lower stretch and its Center Hill Lake embayment hold exactly the still, warm water mosquitoes need to breed, and cabins and homes near the water feel it worst. A clogged gutter or a low, shaded spot in the yard can add to what the creek and lake already provide. Our mosquito program targets resting and breeding sites around the whole property, not just the dock or patio.
Termites
Subterranean termites in Plateau-edge soil
The clay-based soil where the Cumberland Plateau’s foothills meet the Mine Lick Creek valley holds moisture well, prime conditions for subterranean termites. They swarm in spring (typically March through May), and older homes near Baxter’s historic downtown and railroad-era buildings are especially worth protecting. Because termites work silently below grade, an annual inspection and a monitored barrier are the difference between a routine treatment and a five-figure repair.
Ticks
Ticks on wooded, sloped lots
The hilly, wooded terrain above Mine Lick Creek and around the lake embayment gives ticks plenty of habitat, and they travel easily from deer and other wildlife into yards on sloped, tree-lined lots. Ticks ride in on pets and pant cuffs after time near the creek, the lake trails, or brushy property edges, and a property-wide treatment covering the tree line works far better than treating the lawn alone.
Rodents
The fall rodent push
As temperatures drop from September into November, mice and rats move off the wooded hillsides and creek banks and into garages, crawlspaces, and attics looking for a warm winter home. Sealing entry points before the first cold snap is far easier than evicting an established population in January.
Spiders
Spiders — including brown recluse
Older buildings in Baxter’s historic railroad-era downtown, detached garages, and cabins near the lake are classic brown recluse habitat in Middle Tennessee. We treat harborage areas and knock down the insect food source that keeps spiders around.
Wasps
Late-summer wasps & yellowjackets
By August, wasp and yellowjacket nests reach full size on decks, docks, and eaves, right where families gather at the lake embayment or a creekside cabin. It’s seasonal, predictable, and very treatable when you stay ahead of it.

We started using U.S. Pest to help control summer mosquitoes which made it miserable to be outside on our patio. The regular spraying has helped significantly. Philip has been great in communicating his visits to us and answering questions.
