What to Expect on Your First Visit With U.S. Pest
Inviting a pest control company into your home is a bigger decision than it sounds. Someone is going to walk through your house, open your cabinets, and spend time around your kids and pets. You deserve to know exactly what happens on your first pest control visit before anyone knocks on the door.
So here it is: every step of getting started with U.S. Pest, start to finish. No surprises.
Step 1: You reach a real person
When you call 615-590-1260, you talk to someone in our office right here in Middle Tennessee. We don’t use a call center. If you call after hours and reach voicemail, leave a message and we’ll call you back. If you’d rather fill out our free inspection form, we usually respond within a few hours during business hours.
Tell us what you’ve been seeing and where. “Ants by the dishwasher every morning” or “something in the attic at night” helps us send the right person and plan the right amount of time.
Step 2: Your free inspection

Before we recommend anything, we look. A standard inspection takes about 30 minutes. If you’d like us to check the crawl space for termites and damage too, plan on up to an hour.
We’ll need you home for it, because we look inside, in the crawl space, and in the attic, not just around the yard. Your Pest Pro is looking for:
- Signs of the pests you’ve noticed, and any you haven’t
- How they’re getting in, such as gaps around pipes, worn door sweeps, or open vents
- What’s drawing them, like moisture, food sources, firewood, or mulch against the foundation
- Termite warning signs, if you’ve asked for a crawl space check
Some problems, like bed bugs, brown recluse spiders, and cockroach infestations, always need this in-person visit before we can plan treatment. Every home is different, and these pests don’t respond to a one-size-fits-all approach.
At the end, we explain what we found in plain language and recommend a plan. You’ll know the exact price before any work begins, and there’s no obligation. We’ll never sell you something you don’t need. That’s a promise we make in our brand story, and it’s how we earn customers who stay with us for decades.
Step 3: Choosing your plan
Most homes are protected with one of three recurring plans:
| Plan | Visits per year | Usually the right fit for |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | 12 | Heavy pest pressure, wooded or waterfront lots, or pests that keep coming back |
| Every Other Month | 6 | Most homes |
| Quarterly | 4 | Homes with lighter pest activity |
Our residential plans are a 12-month agreement. We recommend staying the full year, because pest pressure changes with every season, but there’s no penalty for cancelling. You can see starting prices on our general pest control page.
Some pests need their own treatment plan, including termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes and ticks, carpenter ants, and fire ants. If you need one of those, we’ll explain how it works and what it costs.
Step 4: Who shows up at your door
Your Pest Pro will arrive in a pressed button-down shirt and a U.S. Pest tie. In an industry of untucked polos, we dress like your home deserves it, because we believe it does.
What you can’t see matters even more. Every U.S. Pest employee is background-checked, drug-tested, state-certified, and has a clean driving record. Our technicians average more than seven years with the company, so the person treating your home has seen a lot of Middle Tennessee pest problems before yours.
Step 5: The initial treatment

Your first service is more thorough than the visits that follow. It takes about twice as long as a regular visit, because the goal is to knock out the pests you have now, not just keep new ones away.
- Outside first. Most pest problems start outside, so your Pest Pro treats around the foundation, entry points, and the places pests hide and travel.
- Inside where it’s needed. If there’s activity inside, we treat it. We also place monitoring boards in key spots so we can see what’s moving around between visits.
- The details. We knock down cobwebs and wasp nests within reach.
- A conversation. Your Pest Pro will walk you through what was treated and what to watch for. Ask anything. That’s what we’re there for.
Step 6: After we leave
Keep people and pets out of treated areas until they’re dry, which usually takes about 30 minutes. A few treatments need more time. Bed bugs, brown recluse spiders, and treatments in the attic or crawl space that require fogging mean everyone needs to be out of the house for 3 to 4 hours. We’ll tell you ahead of time if that applies to you.
You can pay by check or credit card. All recurring services can be set up on autopay, so you never have to think about it.
Between visits: our Whatever It Takes Guarantee
If pests come back between scheduled visits, call us. Service calls between visits are free. And if you’re ever unhappy with a service, our Whatever It Takes Guarantee means we’ll re-treat for free and refund your last service. If you’re still not satisfied, we’ll pay for a competitor to help. No one has had to take us up on that last part, but it’s there, because we hold ourselves accountable to results.
How to get ready for your first visit
A little preparation makes the visit faster and more useful:
- Jot down where and when you’ve seen pests, and snap a photo if you can.
- Make sure we can get to the crawl space, attic access, garage, and basement.
- Unlock any gates and let us know about dogs in the yard.
- Clear space under the kitchen and bathroom sinks if you’ve seen pests there.
- Write down your questions. There’s no such thing as a silly one.
Why it’s done this way
We’re not in the bug business. We’re in the people business. A customer hires us to take care of their bugs, but they keep us because of how we treat them and their home. Some of our customers have been with us for 20 years and more, through new houses, new babies, and kids heading off to college. Every one of those relationships started with a first visit just like this one.
Family- and female-owned and serving Middle Tennessee since 1985, we’re Tennesseans serving Tennesseans, and we’d love to meet you.
