How to Get Rid of Moisture in Tennessee

Moisture can lead to all sorts of problems for your home, from mold and mildew in the bathroom and basement to structural damage if left untreated. Many pest issues are also caused by moisture, too, including silverfish, sow bugs, ants, and others.

If you find your home with excess damp areas or moisture, consider taking the following steps to prevent the problem from getting worse:

  • Use dehumidifiers and fans to remove moisture and humidity from areas that are prone to accumulation. Running exhaust fans in the bathroom after a shower can pull humidity out of the room and keep mold and mildew from developing.
  • Caulk and seal areas around windows, doors, and foundations. Moisture and condensation can develop in these areas.
  • Improve the grading around your home. Sloping the ground away from your foundation will keep water from collecting around your house, which is important for basements and crawl spaces.
  • Fix leaking pipes and faucets as soon as possible. Even the smallest leak can cause big problems throughout time. Take care of plumbing issues promptly.
