These lentil-sized critters may be small but Bed Bugs (Cimex Lectularious) are not what you want to be cuddling with tonight. Easily acquired and carried in from the outside, they can survive up to a year traveling within 100 feet to feed. Here are some things to keep in mind this Bed Bug season.

  • Due to their small size, Bed Bugs (BB’s) can travel easily through pipes, floorboards, carpets, mattresses, furniture, clothing and other types of clutter.
  • BB’s tend to stay together so where there is one, there may be more.
  • Common places to find BB’s are in mattress seams, carpet edges, pillow cases, headboards and bed rails. Keep an eye out for bloodstains, droppings or eggs.
  • Adult BB’s are brown and usually no bigger than an apple seed, but when first born, they can be much smaller and transparent so be aware – they may be hiding right underneath your toes.
  • BB’s are night-critters and oftentimes feed most heavily in the hours before dawn.
