Pest Identification: German Cockroaches in Tennessee
How to Identify German Cockroaches
German cockroaches are distinct from other cockroaches due to two factors: their size and their inability to fly. Unlike many other roaches, whose adults can grow up to two inches in length, German roaches are only about half an inch in length. While other roaches have wings strong enough to fly, German cockroaches do not fly.
Additionally, German cockroaches can be identified by their color. German roach adults are anywhere from light brown to tan but usually have two dark brown, parallel marks on the shield that covers their body.

Where to Find German Cockroaches
German cockroaches are drawn to warm, humid spaces with ample food. As a result, you’ll often find them in either your bathroom or your kitchen—and German cockroaches are particularly problematic pests for commercial kitchens. They can also be found in basements near water heaters and radiators, and are small enough to even hitch a ride in your luggage.
In addition, German cockroaches can often find their way into electronics such as computers, game consoles, printers, and disc players. The warm, dark spaces are a sanctuary for German roaches, so if you have a German roach infestation you should also keep an eye and an ear out for unusual sounds and sights coming from your electronics.
Stop German Cockroaches in Their Tracks ASAP
German cockroaches are one of Tennessee’s most infamous pests. They breed quickly, spread disease, and are extremely difficult to get rid of on your own. One German roach can quickly turn into many, and they will happily invade even clean homes in order to get indoors.
